Another crisis erupted at the Rivers State House of Assembly on Tuesday, only one month following Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s impeachment scare.

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have once more asserted their authority over the complex as reports suggest that backers of both sides, namely Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie and Rt. Hon. Martin’s Amaewhule, held meetings separately in each of their respective locations.

At least four police patrol vans were placed near the front of the Moscow Road Assembly complex, barring both foot and automobile traffic in the area.

On Tuesday morning, approximately 25 legislators, headed by Martins Amaewhule, convened to mull two concerns related to the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria’s (PSAN) suspended strike, according to sources.

The members of the legislative body seemingly supportive of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) requested the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, to look into the blast at the Assembly which detrimentally consumed the venerated Chamber and annihilated numerous items.

Meanwhile, lawmakers headed by Speaker Edison Ehie voted to show their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, announcing that they will stand with him no matter what.

They praised the governor from an unidentified spot on Tuesday while rising from sitting, for his security efforts and progress that has been able to maintain harmony in the state.

“It takes a man of vision to steer the ship of development for the benefit of the people of the state”, Hon. Ehie said in a statement signed by Legislative Aide, Ken Uchendu.

They pledged to provide the governor with sustained assistance to help him achieve his plans for consolidation and long-term stability in order to improve the state.

The legislators denounced the raid on Ehie’s home on Sunday evening, along with the burning of the Legislative Chamber and implored the governor to begin the restoration works immediately.

“Furthermore, the house stressed the need for the Inspector General of police and other related security apparatus of the state to investigate these attacks and bring the culprits to book,” they said.

It could be recalled that on Sunday, October, 29, some hoodlums set ablaze the chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The crisis escalated the following day when some 24 lawmakers in the Assembly had a sitting and removed the Leader of the House, Ehie, loyalist to Wike alongside three others.

The 24 lawmakers in the presence of the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule served an impeachment notice on the Governor.

The matter was however resolved after the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
