The political crisis rocking Rivers State has continued to escalate as the State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara has screened and confirmed Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as a commissioner to serve in the State Executive Council.

Iboroma was confirmed during a plenary presided over by the factional Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo.

The plenary was held at the Auditorium of the Administrative Block Building of Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The confirmation of Iboroma was a sequel to the correspondence the House received from Fubara, who forwarded the name of Iboroma as commissioner-designate, and requested that he be screened.

The commissioner-nominee had been led to the floor of the House by the Sergeant-at-Arms, David Wariboko.

During his speech, Iboroma assured that his allegiance would be to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rivers State Governor, and the state while upholding his oath of office and contributing his professional expertise to further the good governance of the State.

The Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, divided the House for voting after the debate over the confirmation of Iboroma. After the debate, the House confirmed Iboroma as a commissioner of the state.

Oko-Jumbo then instructed the Clerk of the House, Dr G. M. Gillis-West, to convey the resolution of the House to the State Governor.

The New Diplomat reports that the screening of Iboroma was done in the absence of a factional group headed by Mr Martin Amaewhule and other Lawmakers who loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

This comes shortly after Oko-Jumbo had emerged as the factional Speaker of the Assembly.

It would be recalled also that Fubara had on Friday issued an executive order relocating the lawmaker’s legislative sitting chamber of the state House of Assembly to the Auditorium of the Administrative Block of the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The order was contained in the state’s official Gazette, tagged Executive Order of the Rivers State Government 001-2023.
