- Says Wike Has Committed Treason With Plan to Put Fire In PDP States
By Abiola Olawale
Elder statesman, former Federal Commissioner (Minister) for Information, and a prominent South-South leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark has written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, calling for the immediate arrest of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Clark, the Leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), in the letter, addressed to Egbetokun and read on Thursday during a press briefing at his Asokoro residence, also demanded the immediate prosecution of Wike.
According to Clark, Wike, a two-term governor of Rivers State has allegedly committed treason.
Clark, the national leader of the Ijaws, pointed out that Wike threatened to set fire on the states governed by Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It would be recalled that Wike, during a public outburst, had warned the PDP governors to stay clear of the party’s affairs in Rivers.
He had said: “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody.
“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see, you take.”
Reacting, Clark said that the words of the former Rivers State governor marked a “flagrant disrespect to the person of President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him”, describing his comments as “unbridled”, and added that his comments were a form of treason as it was capable of inciting violence in the country.
According to the Elderstatesman: “Wike has committed treason; he should be arrested with a warrant. Wike believes that the only person he respects is the President. Today, Wike is controlling everything, including the judiciary.
“Wike is already dancing naked in the marketplace, with one leg in the PDP and one left in the APC. Either he wants a structure to protect the money he has stolen in Rivers State or for something else.
“That’s why I am calling on the IGP to investigate Wik. Otherwise, Nigeria will be in serious trouble. The youths of the States he threatened to set on fire won’t sit down and watch him do that.”
The New Diplomat reports that Clark and Wike had been having a go at each other in the past months over the political crisis rocking Rivers State.
Clark had severally warned Wike to stay clear of governance in Rivers State and allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara to perform his constitutional duties.
