Fresh revelations have emerged as to the reasons why Acting President Yemi Osinbajo rushed out to United Kingdom on Tuesday night to visit ailing President Muhammadu Buhari who has been on a follow-up medical check-up in London for the past 65 days receiving treatment for an ailment that has been kept as a top secret within the presidency rank and file.

The New Diplomat gathered that the high level meeting hurriedly summoned by the President was not unconnected with several touchy issues threatening to shutdown government at the centre and tear up the country in the wake of a secretive ailment which has kept the President away from the seat of power.

Osinbajo who left for London on Tuesday immediately after rounding his brief meeting with Nigeria Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council at the State House, Abuja notified Nigerians of his trip through his Media Aide, Laolu Akande who tweeted at his handle.

According to the tweet, “AgP Osinbajo meeting with President Buhari in London today, and returning to Abuja immediately afterwards,” Akande tweeted.

Later on, the Acting President who was seeing the President for the first time in about 65 days since he departed the country also communicated same to Nigerians through his official Twitter handle.

A source close to the presidency told The New Diplomat that among issues that necessitated the meeting are the obvious impasse between the executive and legislative arms of government on several grounds, as well as proffering of solutions to the numerous agitations threatening the nation’s existence.

“It’s obvious that the grandstanding between the legislators and the presidency on a number of issues will soon run the government aground if nothing is done to remedy the situation. The President may have summoned the meeting to restrategize and get the government going without much frictions with the house of assembly.” The source also revealed that a major plan is underway to curb the series of agitations fueling embers of war in the country saying, “the meeting between the President and his Vice could also seek ways of resolving the agitations coming from across various sections that formed the country,” the top source said.

Speaking further, he said Osinbajo’s visit to the President “has at least faulted the claim in certain quarters that the president has emaciated to the extent that he can no longer communicate or practically do anything. I’m sure the rumour mongers would have been dealt a big blow with this latest development.”

However, the Acting President returned back to the country at around 5:0 am on Wednesday after meeting the President shortly.

After initially spending over 50 days on medical vacation in London, the President had in May returned to the United Kingdom, UK, for follow-up medical check-up.

Against the backdrop of his current health status, both his aides and associates have continued to assure Nigerians that the President was responding to treatment.

Despite the assurance from the Presidency, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose recently claimed that Buhari has been on life support since June, an allegation that has been generating heated controversy.

Similarly, a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Saturday alleged that doctors have ruled out Buhari’s possible return because he can no longer function.

Meanwhile, the recent trip by the President’s wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari followed by that of the Acting President on Tuesday to visit President Buhari in London further confirms The New Diplomat’s earlier report that barring any last minute change of heart and strategy, President Muhammadu Buhari would soon be flown back to Nigeria.

It would be recalled that Diplomatic sources in London had confided in The New Diplomat that “ barring any change of position, Mr President is likely to be flown back to Nigeria next week, that is by middle of this month.”

The New Diplomat gathered authoritatively from high level serving diplomats in the United Kingdom that there is improvement in ‘’Buhari’s current health condition to necessitate his return to Nigeria even though we pray for the very best recovery for him.’’

Sources revealed that the decision to fly President Buhari back to Nigeria may have informed Aisha Buhari’s decision to travel to London penultimate weekend. An insider who is very close and familiar with current happenings with regards to Buhari’s health status reveals: “ The truth is that President Buhari is gradually recovering. There is improvement but it could be better. The situation was really very frightening but he is better now. Forget all the stuff that is being written in the media. Most of those writings are not true reflection of Mr President’s health condition.”

Also, a Facebook post by the President’s wife on Monday lays it bare for Nigerians, that contrary to media reports, the President may have been recuperating faster than expected as she thanked God that prayers offered by Nigerians concerning her husband’s ailment has been answered.

In the post while responding to Senator Shehu Sani’s metaphorical comment, Mrs. Buhari said proverbially: “God has answered the prayers of the weaker Animals. The Hyenas and the Jackals will soon be sent out of the kingdom. We strongly believe in the prayers and support of the weaker animals.”
