A rescue team has been deployed to the Ekosodin community located in Benin City, Edo State after a storey building on Ekhator Street collapsed during a downpour in the state.

The student community at Ekosodin, Edo State, was thrown into panic in the early hours of Saturday after the building collapsed, trapping a lot of students of the University of Benin(UNIBEN).

The New Diplomat reports that Ekosodin borders the University of Benin and has a huge student population.

Several students who were severely injured in the building collapse have been immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The Dean of Student Affairs was said to have coordinated the rescue efforts alongside a medical team of the university.
