Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State, arrived at the National Headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Monday to reportedly take over as Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party.

The Governor who held an emergency meeting with some members of the caretaker committee of the APC ahead of his assumption of the leadership of the party.

The development comes amid the crisis plaguing the leadership of the APC.

Earlier on monday, it was reported that President Muhammadu Buhari had allegedly approved the removal of the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as the Chairman of the CECPC and in his stead, appointed his Niger State counterpart, Abubakar Sani Bello.

But the Secretary of the caretaker committee, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, would later describe the news of Buni’s sack as fake.

Sen. John made this known in a statement, tagged ” FAKE NEWS: No Leadership Change in APC CECPC,” calling on the members of the party and the general public to disregard the report on Buni’s sack.

However, developments become even more dramatic on Monday as Bello arrived at the APC headquarters and is currently in a meeting with the leadership of the party.

It was learnt that Secretary, Caretaker Committee, John AkpanUdoedehe also arrived at the national secretariat.

In an interview with newsmen at the end of a meeting with the Caretaker Committee and another with states chairmen, Governor Bello, who sat on Buni’s former seat, said, “The states chairmen, took their oath of office today.

“We discussed progress made so far on convention and what needs to be done next so that we will achieve the March 26 date for the convention.”

Responding to a question on why he presided over the meetings, the governor said, “Acting Chairman; I have been acting for a while since the chairman (Buni) travelled.”

When asked to confirm Buni’s sack and his appointment as the new chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Bello said, “No comment.”

Ssecurity operatives had earlier took over the National Secretariat of the APC.
