Nigerians have begun to react to the release of a Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa and an investigative journalist, Adejuwon Soyinka.

Soyinka was released by the Department of State Services (DSS) after he was arrested at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday.

Operatives of the DSS were reported to have arrested the journalist shortly after arriving from the United Kingdom.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Soyinka’s friend and made available to the media. The friend, in the terse statement, also said that the DSS seized Soyinka’s passport.

“He has been released. They held onto his passport. He was released from their (DSS) Ikoyi office, “ the friend disclosed.

The friend in the message said no reason was given for his arrest.

Below are some of the reactions of Nigerians curated from Social media channels:

“The sad story of Nigeria. Where is Nigeria heading?

Which way? How long shall the persecution of journalists continue?”(@drkenon2)

“Story of Nigeria 🇳🇬- When the forest stands silent as the axe swings, the trees forget that they, too, are made of wood.”

This inaction or silence in the face of growing tyranny can lead to the downfall of all, even those who might initially feel safe or removed from the threat.”(@oMatarazi)
