Spanish football giants, Real Madrid, have announced the signing of French forward, Kylian Mbappe, from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a five-year deal. The 25-year-old made the transfer move after verbally agreeing in February 2024, with the deal completed in May.

“Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the player to be at Real Madrid for the next five seasons,” the club confirmed in a statement.

The announcement comes as Madrid, the current UEFA Champions League winners, secured the deal ahead of Mbappe’s involvement in pre-Euro 2024 friendlies for France.

Mbappe, a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, has scored a club-record 256 goals for PSG since joining the club from Monaco on an initial loan in 2017. He made a permanent move to PSG in a 180-million-euro ($195 million) deal at the age of 18.

During his time at PSG, Mbappe helped secure six Ligue 1 titles and led the team to the 2020 Champions League final, where they lost to Bayern Munich.

He also scored a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina in Qatar, although France finished as runners-up after losing on penalties to Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

Despite PSG’s significant investment in pairing Mbappe with Brazil star, Neymar, and Messi, the club has struggled to achieve Champions League success.

As Mbappe’s fame has grown, so has his importance to both the French national team and the country. His move to Real Madrid marks a significant moment in his career and in European football.
