The vituperations from Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State against the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, Monday, have continued to headline political conversations online and offline, triggering a slew of divergent reactions nationwide.

Soludo unequivocally declared that Obi, his forebearer in Anambra, will not win the 2023 presidential election in an article titled ‘History Beckons and I Will Not Be Silent (Part 1)’, issued on Monday.

Soludo in the article said that he had already told Obi his opinion on the possible outcome of the 2023 presidential election. According to the governor, the probability of Obi winning the election “is next to zero”.

The New Diplomat reports that the development comes amid criticism of the Anambra governor over his recent comment on the worth of investment Obi made for the state when the latter was governor.

In a recent interview on Channels Television, Soludo had said the investments by Obi for Anambra are now “worth next to nothing”.

Reacting to the criticism, Soludo said the LP candidate is well aware of the “game” he is playing, adding that with LP, Obi does not have the necessary structure in place to win the presidency.

“The game he is playing is the main reason he didn’t return to APGA. The brutal truth (and some will say, God forbid) is that there are two persons/parties seriously contesting for president: the rest is exciting drama!

“That many Americans may not like the fact that Joe Biden (79 years) and Donald Trump (76 years) are two frontrunners for president in their parties does not remove the fact that if both of them emerge as candidates, definitely one of them will be president in 2024.

“As my brother, I wish him well and even pray for him. I told him during his courtesy call that my prayer is that himself or Prof Umeadi of APGA would win, why not?

“That is from my heart, but I also told him that my head and facts on the ground led me to know that it’s probability is next to zero (what I cannot say before you, I won’t say behind you).

“So I already told him my opinion. Indeed, there is no credible pathway for him near the first two positions, and if care is not taken, he won’t even near the third position,” the article read in part.

Soludo’s scathing criticism of Obi’s candidacy has been eliciting jeers from ‘the obedients’, a moniker for his support base and cheers from supporters of rival parties and candidates against the Labour Party presidential candidate’s bid.
