What Will They Eat When They Finish The Money? By Azu Ishiekwene

The grave is never satisfied, but other things compete with it for insatiability. I can’t help feeling that some members of Nigeria’s National Assembly will vie for the top place of never enough with the grave, water and fire. Enough is a stranger to them. What happens in these chambers in Abuja, in the name…

The latest FIFA rankings indicate that the Super Eagles have dropped eight places, now occupying the 38th position globally.

In FIFA’s latest ranking released on Thursday, the Super Eagles now rank 5th in Africa, falling two steps behind on the continental pecking order.

Further breakdown of the ranking showed that Morocco is now the best African team, placing 12th globally. Morocco is followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (36th), and Cote d’Ivoire (37th) in second, third, and fourth respectively on the continental rankings.

Argentina, France, Belgium, Brazil, and England occupy the first five positions globally.

This decline comes after the disappointing performances of the Super Eagles in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The New Diplomat reports that Nigeria is yet to win any qualifier match for the 2026 World Cup. The national team lost to the Benin Republic for the first time and had before then drawn South Africa.

Following the poor outing, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced it would hire a technical adviser for the team in the coming weeks.

Days after the move, Finidi George purportedly resigned as the head coach of the team, less than two months after he was appointed to lead the Super Eagles.

Aside from the poor performances, there seems to be a crack in the fold of the Super Eagles. It would be recalled that star forward Victor Osimhen had come out to criticise Finidi George for allegedly accusing him of non-commitment to the national team.

However, the NFF hasn’t reacted to Osimhen’s public outburst, as of press time.
