Nigerians have begun to react as some suspected operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invaded and broke into rooms of the Regional Hotel located in the Ojo area, Lagos State.

In a video trending online, the suspected officials who dressed in mufti were seen badging into one of the rooms of the hotel.

Reacting to the development, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the arrest of the officers involved in the raid.

The EFCC boss also ordered an immediate investigation of the manhandling of a female staff of the Regional Hotel.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of Media & Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale.

The statement reads: “The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable.

“Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law.”

Below are some of the reactions curated from social media:

“EFCC @officialEFCC officials early this morning invaded Annex and
Regional hotels in Isashi ojo Lagos, owned by same person.
They broke into rooms, assaulted guests and workers, stole ATM cards, money and phones. Shot sporadically at guests, injured innocent customers, and arrested lots of people.

Nigeria is a Banana Republic.”(@PIDOMNIGERIA)

“Any law enforcement agency who illegally break into houses and hotels in the middle of the night to rob and assault people is a criminal organization and that is exactly what EFCC is.”(@_asiwajulerry)

“You will go out to chill, Police will harass you.

Oya stay in your house, EFCC will break in and harass you.

Even a zoo is more organized than this country.”(@thesmallie)

“EFCC must be cautioned. They must stop operating like robbers and assaulting innocent citizens. This was how citizens repeatedly complained about SARS, specifically from 2015-2020 until it snowballed into nationwide protests. They need to start behaving professionally.”(@ogbeniDipo)

“It’s time to the end the criminal organization called EFCC.

They have left their primary duty, and turned into a terrorist organization, kidnapping, looting and raping Nigerians.

End EFCC now before it ends Nigerians.”(@MikealCBernard)
