The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has officially designated Kayode Pitan as the new pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos.
Pitan will succeed Pastor Charles Kpandei, who has been serving as the interim pastor following the suspension of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.
It was gathered that the decision to appoint Pitan as the new pastor of the City of David Parish was reached by the RCCG governing council during its just-concluded convention.
The appointment marks the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at City of David parish.
Before his new role, Pitan was the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and had also served as the Regional Pastor.
It would be recalled that Iluyomade has been facing stormy waters since the lavish 60th birthday celebration of his wife, Siju Iluyomade, shortly after the death of Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe.
The lavish party which was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, was greeted with criticism, as it came days after the death of an influential member of the Church, Wigwe.
Wigwe died along with his wife, Chizoba, their son, Chizi, former Chairman of Nigeria Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the pilot and co-pilot, in a Di Airbus Helicopter EC 130B4 with registration number N130CZ, near Halloran Springs, California, on February 9.
Following the criticism, in June 2024, the Governing Council of the church suspended Iluyomade for three months and replaced him with Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish.
