The super eagles of Nigeria on Saturday defeated the lone stars of Liberia 2-0 to ensure the country remain top of the group.
Goals from Victor Osimhen and Ahmed Musa helped Nigeria to bag all the crucial three points in its bid to qualify for FIFA World Cup in Qatar, 2022.
The two goals came from the spot kick in both halves. Osimhen broke the deadlock just 15 minutes into the first half when he converted from the spot. The tally was doubled by Musa who also converted from the spot in the 90th minute.
With the win, Nigeria sits on top of the Group C with 12 points, while Cape Verde who defeated Central Africa Republic 2-1 remains second with 10 points , two points behind Nigeria.
The Super Eagles will face Cape Verde on Tuesday in what will be a determiner for who qualifies for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Should the Super Eagles secure at least a draw against Cape Verde, they will join the likes of Morocco, Mali and Senegal, who have already qualified for the next phase of the 2022 World Cup qualifying series in the continent.
The qualifiers is presently in the second round. 10 countries are expected to make it out of the round. The ten countries will then play home-and-away over two legs to determine the five winners who would eventually qualify for the World Cup.
Recall that a total of five slots were alloted to African teams in the World Cup.
