Two and a half months after he was admitted as a fellow of the prestigious Nigeria Academy of Letters, NAL, the world acclaimed professor of Oral literature and Folklore, Prof. Godini Gabriel Darah is to be conferred with Doctor of Letter, D.Litt, Honoris Causa, by the Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The conferment of the honour is scheduled to take place during the University’s 4th Convocation and 6th Olorogun Michael Ibru Memorial Lecture scheduled for September 6, 2022 at the University main hall in Agbarha-Otor.

The New Diplomat learnt that Prof. Darah has also been named as the Keynote Speaker at the 4th Convocation Ceremony and 6th Memorial Lecture.

The letter conveying the invitation to Prof. Darah which was signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Ibiyinka Fuwape, FNIP stated that the erudite scholar was recognized for his “exceptional, notable, excellent and inspiring contributions to the advancement of knowledge and growth in human capital development at national and international levels.”

The University governing Council also nominated Darah as the keynote speaker at the 4th Convocation Ceremony and the 6th Michael Ibru Memorial Lecture.

“Michael and Cecilia Ibru University is a world-class university that is committed to the training of graduates who are capable of competing with their counterparts globally. We pride ourselves in providing excellent education to our students, knowing that they would be builders of society, wherever they are.

“We shall be very grateful if you could take part in the ceremony and share with us from your wealth of experience. Your knowledge will be an excellent addition to the university community. We are proud to invite you to celebrate with our graduands”, the letter stated.

It would also be recalled that Prof. Godini Gabriel Darah was among the seven internationally-recognized scholars who were recently admitted into the prestigious College of Fellows of the prestigious Nigerian Academy of Letters, NAL.

Other scholars conferred with the fellows of NAL on June 1, 2023 include Professor Roseline Oro Aziza (Linguistics – Regular Fellow), Professor Godini Gabriel Darah (Literature/English – Regular Fellow), Professor Oluyemisi Adebowale (Literature/Yoruba – Regular Fellow), Professor Alex Chinwuba Asigbo (Theatre Arts – Regular Fellow), Professor Yakubu Aboki Ochefu (History – Regular Fellow) and Olumuyiwa Adebanjo Falaiye (Philosophy – Regular Fellow),

Also, Professor Emeritus John Ayotunde I. Bewaji (Overseas Fellow – Philosophy) while two personalities – Chief Olusola Akintola Osuntokun – a veteran journalist and Dr. Odia Ofeimum, a Nigerian dramatist, essayist and poet, were also elected as Honorary Fellows of the Academy.
