There was an attempt to burgle the residence of Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, early Monday, the Presidency has confirmed.

Also, the residence of Administrative Officer, Mr Abubakar Maikano was targeted by a burglar, something that has not been heard of in Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, in years.

Presidential spokesperson, Mr Garba Shehu, in a tweet confirmed the development, but noted that the attempts were “unsuccessful.”

“The Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has confirmed that there ‘was a foolish attempt’ to burgle his residence at 3:00am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.

“Professor Gambari, whose house is on a street next to the Villa has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident.

“The police, in a related development is searching for a suspected burglar who unsuccessfully attempted to break into the house of Maikano Abdullahi on Thursday, last week. Maikano lives on the same street with the Chief of Staff, close to the Villa,” he tweeted.

Aso Rock — Nigeria’s seat of power — which houses the President, members of the first family, the Vice President and family; and top government officials is considered as the safest haven in the country, but the robbery attempt said to be the first in several years speaks volume to the worsening state of insecurity nationwide as sundry acts of violence and widespread criminality have continued to jangle citizens’ nerves.
