The Presidency has refuted reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu allegedly directed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso to resign from his position.

The presidency declared that the report was false, baseless and malicious.

On Tuesday, reports emerged that Tinubu has allegedly ordered Cardoso to resign his appointment as the Governor of the CBN.

According to the report, the President allegedly directed Cardoso to resign because of his inability to salvage the poor performance of the economy, most especially, the free fall of Nigeria’s currency, the Naira.

The president was reported to have given the marching order to Cardoso before he left Nigeria for China.

However, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a terse statement described the report as false.

Onanuga declared that: “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Cardoso to resign.”

It would be recalled that Tinubu appointed Cardoso as CBN Governor in 2023 for a term of five (5) years.
