Security forces have commenced a major search-and-rescue operation after terrorists abducted 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The New Diplomat had reported that the attackers invaded the school in the early hours of Monday, shooting sporadically and whisking away an unspecified number of female students.
It was gathered that at least one staff member was killed, while a school guard sustained gunshot injuries during the assault, which occurred around 5:52 a.m.
The Nigeria Police Force, in a statement released through its WhatsApp channel on Monday, confirmed the incident. Police tactical teams stationed at the school engaged the gunmen in a firefight, but the bandits had already breached the school’s perimeter and escaped with the students.
Additional police tactical units, alongside military personnel and local vigilantes, have since been deployed to track the attackers. Security operatives are currently combing suspected bandit routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated effort to rescue the abducted girls and apprehend the assailants.
The police statement read in part: “On November 17, 2025, at about 0400hrs, armed bandits stormed Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko district, Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State. The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel. Unfortunately, the bandits had already scaled the fence and abducted twenty-five students from their hostel. One Hassan Makuku was shot dead, while Ali Shehu sustained a gunshot injury in his right hand.”
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative as the operation intensifies.
