Following the turn of events in some states in the Northern part of Nigeria, the Police have begun arresting some suspected individuals in connection to the violent protests that lead to destruction of properties.
The Sokoto State Police Command revealed that it has arrested 81 suspected hoodlums who allegedly orchestrated violence and vandalism during the nationwide protest against hunger in the state.
The Sokoto State Police Command spokesman, Ahmed Rufai, made this revelation in a statement issued on Friday.
He said the suspected hoodlums were arrested while they were allegedly vandalising some government infrastructure in the Sokoto metropolis.
According to him, the timely intervention of the police and other security agencies halted the further spread of violence and escalation of looting in the metropolis.
Also, the Kano State police command revealed that it has arrested a total of 392 who were suspected to have looted an NCC Industrial Park infrastructure during the nationwide hunger and hardship protest in Kano State on Thursday.
The suspects were also arrested in connection with looting of the Kano High Court, and other locations in the state on Thursday.
The State Police Spokesman, Abdullahi Kiyawa made this disclosure while speaking with the press on Friday.
He also revealed that the suspects were arrested with a large number of exhibits on them.
The New Diplomat reports that the newly built NCC park was said to have been looted by suspected hoodlums on Thursday.
The ICT centre was scheduled for commissioning next week, according to the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani.
Subsequently, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Thursday, declared a 24-hour curfew across the state.
“We are deeply concerned by the turn of events and are taking all necessary measures to restore order. I urge all residents to remain indoors as security agencies work to enforce the curfew,” Yusuf said.
