Two days after he was kidnapped by some suspected Fulani herdsmen, Mr. Godwin Aigbogun, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in ward 9 Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State has been released.
Aigbogun was abducted Monday, July 18 on his way back to his village from his farm in Ologbo-unu.
While the Edo State Police Command is however claiming credit for the release, Aigbogun’s kinsman and former Edo State Publicity Secretary of APC, Comrade Godwin Erhahon insisted that the prisoner escaped from the den of the captors.
The Edo State Police deputy spokesperson Jennifer Iwegbu said that on receipt of the information, the Commissioner Police, Alhaji Abutu Yaro directed operatives of the Command’s crack team and the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit to embark on aggressive bush combing and robust patrol of the area for possible rescue of the victim.
Iwegbu said that as a result, the kidnappers who noticed that they were being trailed by the policemen succumbed to pressure and abandoned their victim unhurt and escaped into the bush.
Erhahon countered, noting that the politician arrived home Wednesday morning after he managed to escape from his kidnappers and not through the action of the police.
To this end, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, warns all kidnappers and their sponsors to either leave the State or face the expanse wrath of the law as the Command would not withold its arsenals to rid the state of their excesses. He also employs the general public to continue to collaborate with the Command by providing credible and timely information on violent criminals and their cohort.
There is celebration in Ologbo-nugu community, off Benin/Abraka Road, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State as the APC Ugu Ward Chairman, Mr Godwin Aigbogun who was kidnapped by Fulani bandits on Monday, Erhahon countered the police, noting that the politician arrived home Wednesday morning after escaping from his kidnappers.
