In a bold move to address the unprofessional conduct of some officers attached to the Edo State Police Command who were responsible for running over a citizen at Ekpoma, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has disbanded the team forthwith.

A statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday said the step aims to regularize and standardize police operations in the axis while restoring public trust.

According to him, the operatives involved are currently facing disciplinary charges and requisite administrative procedure. He said this underscores the commitment of the IGP to hold officers accountable for their intolerable actions.

While reaffirming the IGP’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, Adejobi urge members of the public to always cooperate with Police Officers in the discharge of their statutory duties.

It would be recalled that great uproar followed last Thursday’s fiasco when a Police patrol vehicle ran over a handcuffed man, identified as Success Ehimare and drag him for a while as he struggled to free himself from beneath the moving car.

The police officers were seen running for dear life after an enraged crowd approached their vehicle to demand redress.

While reacting to the ugly incident the IGP had ordered the erring policemen, who have been in detention in Edo State, to report to the Force Headquarters Abuja on Monday for further action.
