A police crack team from Zone 6 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police force, Calabar, Cross Rivers state on Saturday arrested five suspected killers of a Naval Officer, David Igbashal who was abducted on 22 February, 2020.

Igbashal, a Naval Sub Lt. was abducted and killed while on his way to Makurdi, Benue State for his wedding arrangements.

The team led by Emmanuel Ukwenya (a Superintendent of Police) of the Zonal Anti-Corruption/X-Squad set up by Assistant Inspector General Zaki M. Ahmed, recovered the remains of the slained naval officer at Omuogodu Akpu in Ngbo LGA of Ebonyi State, a waring Community with neighbouring Agila village in Benue State.

According to the information made available to The New Diplomat by the Zonal PPRO, DSP Nelson A. Okpabi, the team acted on credible information and arrested five suspects in connection with the crime. The criminals upon interrogation confessed to committing the heinous crime.

They also took the detectives to the site where the murdered officer was buried.

As the suspects will soon be arraigned in court with the hope that the families and spouse of late David Igbashal would be able to give proper burial to the deceased and find justice against the cold-hearted criminals.

Meanwhile, the AIG in-charge of Zone 6 Headquarters Calabar, Zaki M. Ahmed has used the opportunity to condole with the Nigerian Navy over the lost of the young officer while calling on members of the public to obey government/NCDC directives on curtaling COVID-19 and stay safe.

He also assured them of adequate security in this trying times and urged them to report suspected criminals to the police without hesitation.
