Ribadu’s Praiseworthy Strike at Borgu’s Mahmuda Terrorists

By Farooq Kperogi I just learned that after months of painstaking intelligence work, authorities have apprehended Mahmud Muhammad Usman, the self-styled “Emir of Ansaru,” and his deputy Mahmud al-Nigeri, known as Malam Mahmuda, the man behind the Mahmuda terrorist group that has been tormenting my people in Borgu, a geo-cultural space that stretches from Kebbi…

You be terrorist, I no be terrorist!

By Festus Adedayo When the weight of words spoken is weightier than whatever response it may attract, my people say Oro p’esi je. The English say such wordless period is an ineffable moment. Authorities and residents in Illinois, Chicago, United States, are mourning the death of Nigerian-born Olasinmibo Abosede, fondly called Sinmi, whose remains were discovered after she had been missing for more than two weeks.

According to reports, the 42-year-old mother was last seen on July 30, leaving her home near Springbrook Golf Course in Naperville for a morning walk.

Surveillance footage later confirmed her walking away from her neighborhood around 9:20 a.m., dressed in a black Adidas jacket, grey sweatpants, a black headscarf, and black Crocs.

On Thursday, officers responding to a call were led through dense grass in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, near 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive, where her body was found at about 1:55 p.m. Police said her clothing matched the description from the day she disappeared.

Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres expressed the department’s grief, saying: “While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincere condolences to the Abosede family. We ask that everyone keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy during this time.”

The discovery followed extensive search efforts that involved police, volunteers, and canine teams combing the preserve for weeks.

Forest Preserve District Police Chief David Pederson also paid tribute: “Our hearts go out to Sinmi’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Authorities have said they do not suspect foul play. The DuPage County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is being led jointly by the Forest Preserve District Police and the Naperville Police Department.
