Police Commission Elevates 952 ASPs, strikes out 179 over retirement, death

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to Deputy Superintendents (DSPs) but struck out 179 names due to retirement and death.

Spokesperson of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani said the decision was taken at the first plenary meeting of the Commission’s 6th Board, chaired by retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

Ani explained that 176 officers have already retired from service, while three others were believed to be deceased.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, Argungu urged them to show patriotism, discipline, and adherence to service rules. He warned against unauthorised or diversionary actions by serving personnel, insisting that grievances must be channelled through approved procedures.

“The Commission is committed to protecting your career progression, but officers must also play their part with integrity,” he stressed.

Among those promoted are Maidawa Yakubu, Edwin Thomas, Chagga Yakubu, Sabo Hassan, Omini Dickson, Grace Okon, Rose Bassey, Fidelis Offorbuike, Elvina Ochia Chukwu (FCID Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi), Kyrian Igwe (Enugu Command), Ndidiamaka Onwude (Ebonyi Command), and Rosemary Egbo (Delta Command).

Others include Sunday Ajaegbu (44 PMF, Abuja), Deborah Danjuma (SPU Base 7 Abuja), Olowu Yetunde (Ogun Command), Felix Okpaleke (Ebonyi Command), Zakka Bulus (FCT Command), Kudirat Elegba (SPU Base 2 Lagos), Isioma Omodion (Delta Command), Ukpabio Akiba (Rivers Command), and Edna Emeh Bassey.

According to the PSC, the promotion list has been forwarded to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for implementation in a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
