By Agency Report

The FCT Police Command says over 15 suspects including two local security guards employed by warehouse management have been arrested in connection with the early morning looting of a government facility in Gwagwa area of Abuja Municipal Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the suspects were arrested with exhibits including 26 bags of Maize, five motorcycles and some vandalised aluminum roofings which were recovered from them.

The statement says the FCT Police Command is fully informed about the attack on the Agric Department Strategic Food Store located at Tasha in Abuja by an irate mob, which resulted in the vandalism and looting of the warehouse.

The statement said normalcy has since been restored to the environs and the situation is very much under control.

It is however on record that the same facility was attacked and looted by hoodlums during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown where all the food items stored in the warehouse were carted away and the roof also vandalised.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has denied reports alleging that its warehouse was looted by some hoodlums in Abuja.

In a statement from its Press Unit signed by Manzo Ezekiel, “the looted warehouse does not belong to NEMA. However, the Agency sympathises with owners of the looted facility”.

And to forestall any security breach at NEMA facilities, the Director-General, Mustapha Habib Ahmed has directed Zonal Directors and Heads of Operations to strengthen security in and around the Agency’s offices and warehouses nationwide”.
