The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect, identified as Ayomide Adeleye, over an alleged link to the gruesome murder of a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Idowu Christianah.
The murder of Christianah broke into the media space on Wednesday, with many Nigerians demanding justice.
She was said to have been abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road, Lagos in August.
Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, was alleged to have masterminded the abduction.
The suspect was also alleged to have been involved in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020 under alleged similar circumstances.
Giving an update on the situation, the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a short statement issued on his official X handle, confirmed that the suspect has been arrested.
Hundeyin also shared a picture of the suspect being handcuffed. According to him, Adeleye was arrested and handed over to the Lagos State Police Command by the Nigerian Army on Thursday afternoon.
He also confirmed that an investigation was ongoing on the matter. He said: “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to @LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade @HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. The investigation is ongoing.”
