The Nigerian Army, Monday, has laid to rest the bodies of 12 soldiers killed by bandits in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State on April 6, 2021 at the military cemetery in Wurukum, Makurdi the state capital.

It would be recalled that the soldiers were murdered while on a routine operational task restore peace in the troubled region of Konshisha and Oju Local Government Areas of the state.

In his address, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom berated the killing of the young promising military officers whose duty is to preserve the territorial integrity of the country and restore peace to troubled areas in the country.

Speaking further, Ortom extends his sincere condolences to the families, murdered officers, Nigerian Army, and the Federal Government.

He therefore reassured the Nigerian Army of his administration’s commitment to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved in the killing.

He condemned the brutal killing, promising to corporate with the military to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the killing. He also condemned the action of civilians taking up arms against security forces.

Dignitaries present at the funeral were: family members of the murdered officers, colleagues, and senior officers of the 72 battalion Makurdi led by the Commander, 4 Special Forces Doma, Brigadier General L.G Lepbung and the Commander Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Adeyemi Yekini.

Moreover, general salute was given to the fallen heroes with 21 gunshots and the presentation of military attires and the national flag to the next of kin of the deceased soldiers and officers.
