The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, on Sunday paid a visit to former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose.

The presidential candidate arrived at Fayose’s Lagos residence at about 3pm on Sunday.

While the details of the meeting remains sketchy as of press time, it comes after Fayose underwent a back surgery overseas.

The New Diplomat had reported Fayose successfully underwent a back surgery from an injury he sustained from the attack on him during the 2018 Ekiti governorship election.

Fayose had also undergone neck surgery in February.

The meeting also comes amid a recent declaration by Fayose that he was going to support a southerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), said despite the fact that his party chose a Northerner flagbearer for the 2023 presidential election, the south should produce the next president in a bid to allow for equity and fairness.

“The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.

“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’,” he had tweeted.
