The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has chosen former senator and founder of Baze University, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate in the forthcoming 2023 general election.

This was disclosed by the National Chairman of the LP Julius Abure.

He also disclosed that an official unveiling will be done in Abuja on Friday.

With the development, Baba-Ahmed will fly the presidential ticket with Obi in 2023 following the withdrawal of Dr Doyin Okupe, who had been the placeholder for the position.

Baba-Ahmed, who is in his late 40s is the Proprietor of Baze University, Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University Kano.

He was born in 1975 and attended the University of Maiduguri, where he studied economics, up to the Masters level.

After schooling, he worked in at the Mint in Lagos, for several years before entering politics.

He was elected as a House of Representatives member for Zaria in 2003. In between his tenure in 2006, he bagged a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Westminster.

He was one of the lawmakers who opposed the third term agenda of President Obasanjo.

After leaving office in 2007, Baba-Ahmed returned to his Baze business group and founded Baze University.

By 2011, he moved back to politics and won the Kaduna North senate seat, under the PDP.

However, the electoral tribunal overturned his victory and he left office in 2012.

He became a notable professor and expert on Islamic jurisprudence. He is known to have been speaking out against corruption and the rot in the country’s educational system.

He is the founder and Pro–Chancellor of Baze University, an independent university located in Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria which opened in April 2011.
