Labour Party (LP) has expressed it’s “deep concerns” about the skyrocketing cost under the current administration and counsels President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to implement better action plans to swiftly adress the issue.

Recall that atiku recently shared banters with the present administration over the nagging issue of inflation.

“Millions face food shortages. Prices keep soaring,” said Obiora Ifoh, national publicity secretary of LP on Monday in a statement, Citing protests in Minna over unaffordable essentials.

Ifoh claimed staples like rice, flour and sugar have “witnessed exponential increase” in 2023. “A carton of noodles now sells for N10,000, 50kg bag of sugar is now selling at N73, 000 as against N62, 000 sold in early January. A bag of cement now sells upward of N7000 against N5500, a bag of rice rising above N70,000, while a kg of meat now sells for N4000, amongst others” the statement reads

The opposition party blamed Tinubu’s “hasty” fuel subsidy removal without planning. “We knew this would lead to economic trouble,” Ifoh said.

According to the LP, it’s Presidenti candidate, Peter Obi had warned against the move during the campaign. “But we were called names”

“It’s obvious this situation may never be arrested by this government. That calls for concern.” it added

Ifoh further pointed to naira devaluation, soaring dollar and everyday goods pricing out of reach. In his words “There is despondency across the nation”

The statement further pointed out immediate results of the inflation situation ; an increase in crime rate especially among the youths as well as incidences of suicide.

While harping on the need for quick action the statement asks “Is the government bereft of ideas or just campaigning again? This is no time for politics.”
