Former Governor of Anambra and 2023 flag bearer of the Labour Party, (LP), Peter Obi, has condemned the alleged gruesome murder of the party’s Onuimo Constituency candidate, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Christopher Eleghu.

Peter Obi in his verified Twitter handle, on Friday night, said he was disturbed by the “targeted killing” of Eleghu, and enjoined all security agencies to work together in order to apprehend the preparators of such heinous crime.

In his words, “I am deeply disturbed by the evidently targeted killing of the Labour Party State House of Assembly Candidate for Onuimo LGA in Imo state, Hon. Christopher Eleghu at his home. His house and cars were reportedly set ablaze.

“I condemn these heinous acts in the strongest possible terms. Such acts violate our spirit of security, civility and the recently signed Peace Accord. Federal and State security agencies must work assiduously to uncover those behind this killing”

It would be recalled that within the past few months, Imo state has become a hotbed for politically motivated killings and unwarranted destruction of properties. Sequel to this unpleasant development, the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was razed by yet unidentified arsonists in Owerri, imo State capital. Prior to this time, other government buildings and properties have become targets for these unsuspecting criminals.
