One of the overfed parasites, who found a comfortable nest in the senate, after joining the “idlers’ club” and has been feasting on the nation’s common patrimony since 2023, exposed his shallowness recently when he proposed an indecent bill for want of what to put against his name.
He calls himself Peter Onyekachi Nwaebonyi. He’s a senator from Ebonyi State after winning an election in 2023. A quick Google search on him inspires nothing. Bland and empty, he obviously had nothing good to flash before his political adventure.
And now, as a senator, he has been unable to rise above personal inadequacies and tawdry attitudinal disposition. Almost non-existent, even as a serving senator, the first time he ever gained national attention was through a despicable showing that will remain in his record.
Remember the senator, who almost engaged a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, in fisticuffs over Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s alleged sexual harassment? Yes, that’s the man in focus again. His showing in that incident already told his story and, of course, summarised his worldviews. So, there was no need to dissipate useful energy.
But his recent proposal in the form of a bill on the floor of the senate was shocking, to say the least. Of all the problems facing Nigeria, this man was uncomfortable with a community he considered “unsightly” as you descend into the Abuja airport. Concern for national image, he said.
He wanted a better view, the one that brings pride to him and, therefore, cared less about the people living in the space. He wanted them resettled, or the government should provide the funds for an upgrade of the area for striking optics, even if those people daily sleep on an empty stomach. Akiika!
He stood up with his shoulders high on the floor of the Senate to present such a nasty bill, thinking he was doing the FCT and the nation a favour. But the government can do whatever it likes with the people habiting in the place. Just beautify the space!
Thankfully, on this occasion, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, was in a better frame of mind with a higher thought process. He asked relevant and probing questions, not just to dismiss his proposal, but to show to him he was thoughtless and the bill misplaced. I hope he picked that latent message from Akpabio’s intervention?
Although the Nays had the day after it was put to vote, it was not surprising that a few people in the same WhatsApp group with him, said yes in support of an obvious “advice from a mad man”.
Time and time again, these are proofs that one of the things the nation must do to enhance her quest for better democratic ideals is to review her leadership recruitment process. Many of these guys should take up classes in critical thinking from time-to-time as part of their personal development. This is just too poor, shameful, and inhuman!
