The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed that the position of its National Chairman would be zoned to the North.
The Chairman of the Zoning Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, made this announcement on Thursday afternoon.
This development marked a twist from reports that the PDP was planning to zone its chairmanship to the South.
However, the development has ruled out likely Southern candidates: the suspended National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus; former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and former governorship candidate in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede from the chairmanship race.
The communiqué issued after the meeting made it clear that “the decision of the PDP zoning sub-committee is in line with the constitution of the party on zoning and rotation of party and national offices in the interest of justice, equity and fairness.
“Consequently, the current offices being held by officers in the southern zones of the country should swap places with the offices currently in the northern zones.”
