The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned its members, including prominent figures like the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, against endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) declared that such actions constitute anti-party activities and will attract stiff sanctions.

In a statement released on August 8, 2025, by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NWC expressed concern over the actions of certain high-profile members who have publicly thrown their support behind Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party cited Section 10(6) of its constitution, which it said prohibits members from aligning with other political parties in ways that undermine the PDP’s interests or its elected governments.

The statement reads in part: “Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party.

“Such anti-party activities have continued to negatively impact the PDP, leading to division, disaffection, and heavy hemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our Party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.

“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, under the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution.”

The warning comes amid growing tensions within the PDP, particularly with figures such as Wike and Fayose who have openly expressed their support for Tinubu.

Wike, a key member of the G-5 group that worked against the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 election, has continued to praise Tinubu.

Fayose has also been equally unapologetic about his stance. During a July 2025 appearance on a television program, he described Tinubu as his “kinsman” and argued that supporting him is not disloyalty, given his belief that the PDP’s structures are compromised.
