The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, emerged victorious in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election held on August 16, 2025, decisively defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Adewale Olatunji.

The election, necessitated by the passing of APC’s Hon. Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi on July 10, 2025, saw PDP secure a victory in the just-concluded by-elections.

According to the returning officer, Abiodun Oluwadare, Oyekunle clinched the seat with 18,404 votes, leaving Olatunji trailing with 8,312 votes.

Other contenders, including Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), scored 88 votes, Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with 40 votes, and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) with 18 votes.

The by-election, conducted across 512 polling units with 217,980 registered voters, saw PDP’s dominance evident even at the grassroots level.

Notably, APC’s Olatunji lost his own polling unit at Ward 10, Unit 27, securing only six votes compared to Oyekunle’s nine, despite 248 registered voters at the unit.
