Senator representing Zamfara Central senatorial district the National Assembly, Hassan Mohammad Gusau, on Tuesday has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), worsening the defection storm that has hit the opposition party recently.

The lawmaker tendered his resignation letter at the plenary on Tuesday and was read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

This is coming amid reports that several top politicians of the Zamfara state PDP chapter, including the incumbent Governor, Bello Matawalle is set to dump the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Gusau in his resignation failed to disclose the party he would be joining after dumping PDP.

He, however noted that his decision was attributed to the internal crisis rocking PDP in the state.

The letter reads, “My decision is necessitated due to the collapse of internal democracy and factionalisation of the party from ward levels in Zamfara State.

“Further decisions on political movement and party affiliations will be communicated to this chamber in due course.”

Recall that in May, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP broke out in Zamfara State. The faction known as True PDP emerged, led by Bilyaminu Aliyu Badarawa.

According to Badarawa, the decision to create a faction is to rescue PDP from collapsing under the leadership of Tukur Danfulani.
