The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday, said necessary steps are being taken to ensure all aggrieved party members are reconciled before the general elections.

Atiku in a post on his verified Facebook account, said the unity of the PDP is his priority, saying he has resolved to unify Nigeria, starting from his party to the larger society.

His words are; “the Peoples Democratic Party will remain united. Focus on our actions. We are taking action to address the feelings of all party members.

“The unity in our community is my priority. Our resolve to unify Nigeria starts in our party and moves to the community, then on to society.

“Every Governor, Legislator, and other elected officials produced by our party, and party members and loyalists, are much loved and respected by me. When they speak, I listen. I do not only listen. Appropriate actions have been taken, are being taken, and will continue to be advanced”.

It would be recalled that Former Governor of Ekiti State, and chieftain of PDP, Ayodele Fayose, had on Wednesday, said the south must produce the next president in a bid to allow for equity and fairness.

He tweeted: “The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.

“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’.

Also, the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom had said he’s still praying whether to support Atiku’s candidacy or not as he decried the treatment meted out to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who was ignored for both the presidential and the Vice-Presidential slots of the PDP for 2023.

“Some of us believe that Wike has the capacity but Nigerians or let me say the PDP people did not give him the opportunity. Some of us rooted for him. I was amongst the 17-member committee that was set up by the candidate himself and the party and some of us said that for the vice presidency of the party, we needed Wike to be the vice president so that he can bridge the gap.

“Some of us have resorted back to prayers because I am really confused. I felt that Wike would have been the vice-presidential candidate of the party after losing the presidential ticket to Atiku. He was the second person to Atiku and Wike has the charisma.” Ortom said.
