Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Damagum, has stated that he will not be pressured into stepping down from his role.

Speaking at the inauguration of the National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees, Damagum expressed frustration with those spreading false information about the operations of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He emphasized that the ongoing criticism has only bolstered his visibility and prompted him to consider running for the presidency.

“Let me make it clear to those who keep saying ‘Damagum this, Damagum that’ – I cannot be intimidated. The more you talk about me, the more popular I become,” he declared.

It would be recalled that earlier this week, there have been rumors that the PDP’s NWC might take disciplinary action against Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. The controversy stems from an alleged letter sent to the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, which some party leaders viewed as an act of disloyalty.

Recall also that the PDP’s NWC has been deeply divided over the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has pitted Governor Siminalayi Fubara against his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Damagum and Anyanwu are accused of writing to the Deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal, urging the court to disregard a previous letter from PDP National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, which announced the party’s withdrawal from a lawsuit involving 25 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December.
