The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has taken another dimension as the embattled National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, is set to jet out of the country on Wednesday amid persistent calls from the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on him to vacate the Chairmanship position.

Ayu in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr Simon Imobo-Tswam, on Tuesday, made available to newsmen in Abuja, said he will be away for “about two weeks. “

Imobo- Tswana said, the National Chairman “will leave Nigeria for Europe tomorrow (Wednesday).

“Ayu will be out of the country for about two weeks.

“While away, the Deputy Chairman (North), Amb. Iliya Damagun, will act in his place.

“Already, the National chairman has communicated the handover to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He is expected back at month-end. “

It would be recalled that on September 8, 2022, PDPs’ National National Executive Council, (NEC) passed a vote of confidence in senator Ayu.

This comes after the Board of Trustees, BoT, Chairman, Walid Jibrin stepped down at the National Executive Council meeting held in Abuja.

Wike while reacting to the development mocked the former National Chairman, Uche Secondus, for celebrating the vote of confidence passed on his successor, noting that no amount of confidence vote would save Ayu from being ousted from the position.

In his words, “I was watching, listening. They say there is one man called Secondus. They say he was dancing, celebrating that NEC gave their person a vote of confidence. He forgets history.

“Ask him, the same NEC through Aliyu Babangida, who moved a motion for a vote of confidence supported by the same person, Ndudi Elumelu, they gave him a vote of confidence. What happened? He left the office”.
