The crisis currently rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is far from being over as its embattled National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu has been replaced by Ambassador Umar Llilya Damagum.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party that effected the change, said Amb. Damagum who be in acting capacity of the chairman.
This development, however, cames after an emergency meeting was convened, acknowledging the Order of the Benue State High Court, dated March 27, 2023 with regards to the Chairmanship position of the Party.
A released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, on Tuesday, said “After a careful consideration of the Court Order and in line with Section 45 (2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North) His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in acting capacity with effect from today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023”.
“The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and supporters of our great Party to remain calm and united at this critical time”.
It would be recalled that Ayu, yesterday, boasted that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party can suspend him.
Ayu in a statement by his media aide, Simon Imobo-Tswam, said that “Article 57(7) of the PDP Constitution as Amended in 2017 expressly prohibits any organ of the party or executive committee of the party at the Ward or State Level from taking any disciplinary measure against any member of the party’s National Executive Committee
