The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly opposed the recent surge in petrol prices, which now exceeds N1,000 per liter across various parts of Nigeria. The opposition party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, criticized the price increase, calling it ill-timed and detrimental to the already struggling Nigerian populace. The PDP expressed concerns over the worsening economic conditions, noting that the hike would deepen the hardships faced by millions of Nigerians who are grappling with rising inflation, poverty, and a devaluing currency.

The PDP also emphasized that with proper management and transparency in the petroleum sector, fuel prices could be significantly lower. The party called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly to reverse the increase, highlighting the critical need for relief in a nation where many citizens are already struggling to meet basic needs like food and medication.

It would be recalled that there has been growing anxieties over what some economists described as poor handling of Nigeria’s economic situation, whereby inflation has hit 34%, and the naira has fallen to an exchange rate of over N1,600 per dollar.
