- Tambuwal To Quit Chairmanship Position of PDP Governors’ Forum
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara as the acting Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Party as the PDP on Thursday made certain steps towards resolving the crisis roiling its leadership.
Walid Jibrin had earlier resigned from the position at the ongoing BoT meeting taking place at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Speaking on his resignation, Jibrin said, “I am stepping down as the chairman of BoT. I am stepping down to make it easier for all of us.
“I took this decision based on what I said in the past. I said that all we want to make sure of is that Atiku Abubakar becomes the President by all means, and that is why I sincerely decided to step down from the BoT. I discussed this with the candidate and he agreed with me. I am sure if the party wins, I will be given a bigger position.”
Wabara, was the Secretary of the PDP BoT prior to his appointment as Chairman. According to sources, Wabara would also be appointed to the presidential campaign council of the PDP, adding that he has been named the Political Adviser of the National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu.
In an attempt to swap positions between North and South to pacify aggrieved Southern stakeholders of the PDP, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, will also resign shortly as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.
Recall the Southern chieftains of the PDP like Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers and Chief Bode George had vehemently held that the North cannot have both Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and other key positions in the party, including the chairmanship at the same time, something that has made the crisis in the opposition’s PDP to fester more ahead of the 2023 polls.
More to come….
