There is palpable tension in Borno state as some suspected fighters of the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP), reportedly stormed the Kukawa Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.

The suspected terrorists were reported to have issued an eviction notice to residents of the communities in Kukawa LGA or face death from the terror group.

This is coming barely four days after the killing of fifteen fishermen in the Tumbun Rogo community.

Speaking with the press, a resident who fled his community to Maiduguri, said that the terrorists had gathered residents of various communities in the LGA in the early hours of Thursday, and told them to vacate their homes before Saturday.

The source said the suspected terrorist reportedly threatened to kill anyone they met in the communities on Saturday.

The New Diplomat reports that Kukawa is a Local Government Area in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno, close to Lake Chad. It is surrounded by Lake Chad and has the presence of troops of the Nigerian Army and the Navy.
