There is palpable panic as scores of shops have been destroyed in a fire outbreak at Apongbon Market in Eko Bridge, Lagos State.

The inferno which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday has caused serious gridlock on the Eko bridge and also crippled commercial activities around the Lagos Island area of the state.

Lagos State Traffic Management Agency has also confirmed the fire incident. Though the agency failed to ascertain the cause of the incident, it was gathered that valuable goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed by the inferno.

The agency also confirmed that emergency workers have been deployed to the affected areas to calm the situation.

“Traffic from Eko bridge has been re-routed to Ebute-Ero to link inner marina. Men of fire service and other security agencies are still on the ground. Therefore, CMS bridge and Eko bridge inward/outward Apongbon is close to traffic at the moment,” Lagos State Traffic Management Agency tweeted.
