There is pandemonium in Abuja as some police officers on Tuesday reportedly fired teargas at protesters during a protest against what the later described as the economic hardship in the country.

According to reports reaching The New Diplomat, the situation occurred after protesters had gathered at the Utako area in Abuja, flying the Nigerian Green-White-Green flag and banners with various inscriptions such as “EndBadGovernance”, “DiasporaVoting”, “EndHighLivingCosts.”

However, a detachment of security personnel including policemen were said to have dispersed the protesters with teargas.

It would be recalled that several Nigerians had agreed to protest on Tuesday, on the occasion of Nigeria’s independence day.

The October 1, 2024 protest came after the August #EndBadGovernance protests.
The protesters have said that they are aggrieved about the high cost of living, among other challenges.
