Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has vowed to put forces together with the leadership of Labour Party to ensure that the party wins the coming governorship election in Edo State.

The Governor who paid a courtesy visit to the Labour Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, late Thursday, was full of praises for Barrister Julius Abure’s leadership.

He also attributed his successes in the last 7 months as Abia State governor to hard work, dedication and love for the people.

While addressing the party’s National Working Committee, the governor said, “I want to thank you for holding the party for us, fighting on the side of the Party and protecting what we know today as the Labour Party.

The reality is that the law as it is today recognises only the political parties and not individuals. When you take away the party, the individual collapses, even if it is the president. That is why it is critical that we hold on to the platform upon which we are elected.

“I also want to thank you for the support you have been giving to our representatives in the national and state assemblies and myself also who happens to be the only elected governor under Labour Party. We thank God that today we have a governor but I can assure you that that position will change soon with the coming elections in Edo and Ondo states.”

National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure while welcoming the governor extolled his great performance since assumption of office particularly the transformation of the capital and commercial cities of Umuahia and Aba respectively.

He said, “Your Excellency, what you have brought to governance in just a little above six months in Abia state is undescribable. What your predecessors could not achieve in several years in office, you have achieved. Abia people will be eternally grateful to the Labour Party for giving them this precious gift as a leader. We can only hope that people will begin to see from the transformation going on in Abia that the Labour Party is the only party that has the interest of the people at heart.”

He also assured the governor that the party is being repositioned to be the best political party in Nigeria with highest electoral potentials, and a party which has since assumed its rightful position as a foremost opposition party in Nigeria.

He assured the governor that the party will field the best and winnable candidate in the coming off season elections in Edo and Ondo states with the capacity to achieve victory for the party.

Meanwhile the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh praised the Abia State governor for the quality of appointees he chose as Mayors/Chairmen of Local Government Council. He said that their engagements have brought instant gains in the rural areas in the state.

Obiora Ifoh while appreciating the governor for the appointment of Chief Ndubisi Ike as the Mayor of Umunneochi also affirmed the positive changes witnessed in the locality within the short period of time he assumed the headship of the council.

He said, “The saying that when the righteous is in authority the people rejoice. I am from Umunneochi, and within the few days of Ndubisi Ike’s coming to office, the people have heaved a sigh of relief particularly in the area of security. His synergy with your administration has ended the sad story of Umunneochi being the Sambisa of the South East.”
