Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, the lawmaker representing Osun Central senatorial district of Osun State in the Senate, has announced his decision to resign his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This development was contained in a letter issued by Fadeyi on 12th July, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 3 chairman, Oke Ejigbo, Ila Orangun, Osun State.
The Senator said his decision to leave the PDP is due to what he described as “irreconcilable differences”
The letter partly reads: “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.
“Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division that have emerged and court cases and counter court cases in the last 3 years, which have created factions in the party at the national level.
“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family, and friends.”
The New Diplomat reports that this is coming as Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and a prominent PDP figure have been at the center of defection rumors, with reports suggesting the governor may be considering a move to the APC ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Despite Adeleke’s repeated denials, including a statement on July 5, 2025, where he reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and dismissed the rumors as “fake news,” speculations persist.
The rumors gained traction following Adeleke’s private meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos last month, accompanied by his brother, Adedeji Adeleke, and nephew, Davido.
Sources close to the governor have hinted at ongoing consultations with stakeholders, with some aides openly suggesting he is evaluating his political options.
Also, Fadeyi’s defection from the PDP comes after his colleague, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, the lawmaker representing Osun East senatorial district of Osun State in the Senate, resigned his membership of the PDP.
