  • Says he stands firm with PDP

By Abiola Olawale

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has categorically dismissed rumors of his alleged plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is as the governor reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor’s statement comes in response to speculations that surfaced on Friday, suggesting he planned to switch his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of his re-election bid.

However, taking to his official X handle, Adeleke insisted that he remains a loyal member of PDP and the party’s leader in the state.

He said: “Over the last few hours, I have been inundated with calls regarding rumours of a possible defection. I want to assure the good people of Osun State and Nigerians at large; I remain a loyal member and the leader of the People’s Democratic Party in Osun State.

“My focus remains on delivering good governance and fulfilling our 5-point agenda for the Osun people. Please disregard the fake news and continue to support our mission for a better Osun State.”

The New Diplomat reports that this comes amid recent political realignment across the country.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom are among many heavyweights who have dumped the PDP for the APC.

These developments come as former PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, led coalition talks with other political bigwigs and stakeholders who adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party.

The PDP, on the other hand, is also grappling with internal crises, particularly the unresolved leadership dispute over the position of National Secretary. Both Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye are laying claim to the role,a development which has intensified the party’s organisational instability.
