The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State on Tuesday described the election petition filed by the APC and Governor Oyetola as dead on arrival and time-wasting.

Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state had submitted a petition at the state election petition tribunal to challenge the outcome of the July 16 governorship election.

The governor was accompanied by his wife, Kafayat, the APC Chairman in the state, Prince Gboyega Famodun, and some members of the state executive council.

The petition, which was personally signed by the Governor and the party Chairman, was received by the tribunal secretary.

The petition was filed to challenge the victory of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

However, PDP on Tuesday said even though they have 21 days after receiving the petition to file their reply, they’ve decided to file it on the 14th day, to show readiness on the matter.

PDP Legal Committee Secretary, who is also the lawyer representing the party, Mr Hasim Abioye told journalists that the party had also brought its witnesses before the panel to sign their statements on oath.

He said, “We have 21 days to file our reply. This is the 14th day and to show that we are ever ready, fit as a fiddle, and that we are not running anywhere, we have filed our reply.

“I think we have more than 100 witnesses. You can see some of them here. Others are still coming. So, I can tell you that for us to be able to line up that number, we are fully prepared to defend this mandate.

“It is to show that the election petition filed by the APC and Governor Oyetola is time-wasting because it was brought in dead and you will see that at the end of the day,” he added.
