The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has warned that if the current insecurity challenges in the country persist, the 2023 elections may not hold.

Ortom stated this on Tuesday when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The governor who arrived at the Villa unaccompanied met with the president over issues of insecurity in the country, especially the recent attempt on his life.

Briefing journalists after meeting with the President, Ortom remarked that the nation was sitting on a keg of gunpowder with the lingering issue of insecurity and because of that “there may be no 2023 elections in Nigeria…”

Ortom also urged the federal government to ensure equity, fairness, and justice in the running of the country.

He lamented the issue of impunity in the country which he said has been allowed to fester and urged the Federal Government to immediately prosecute anyone found breaking the laws of the land.

Dismissing the allegation that he stage-managed the attack on his convoy, the governor appealed to Nigerians not to politicize an issue as grave as the attempt on his life.
