The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the Tinubu administration for allegedly putting the cart before the horse in its bid to solve Nigeria’s multi-faceted problems.
Atiku noted that it’s nothing short of misplaced priority for the Tinubu-led government to call for national prayer to be led by the First Lady and the National Security Adviser(NSA) to prevent Nigeria from plunging into an abyss after tottering on its brink for seventeen months.
The former Vice-President stressed that while he is not averse to prayer, he is convinced that what’s ailing the country requires sound policy formulation and implementations rather than perfunctory show of piety
Atiku noted that for Tinubu to come up with national prayer just twenty-four hours after proposing his alternative solutions showed his administration is bereft of ideas.
The PDP presidential candidate stated this in a series of posts on his official X account on Monday. The tweet was a response to the Presidency earlier reply to Atiku’s views of some national issues.
The presidency, through the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the president, Bayo Onanuga had earlier said Atiku was completely rejected by Nigerians in the 2023 election.
“Isn’t it fascinating how the so-called ‘tested’ Tinubu administration’s only policy response seems to be a national prayer led by the First Lady and the NSA? Just a mere 24 hours after I proposed my alternative solutions! What a bold strategy! In my humble interpretation of the scriptures, prayer indeed serves as a noble path to follow. However, the sacred texts also counsel us to engage in diligent labour and hard work.
“It is, therefore, uncharitable for Tinubu’s team to claim that my proposals remain untested. What remains unproven is the erratic, trial-and-error nature of the policies so far implemented by this administration, which elucidates our present predicament.” Atiku stated.
The former Vice President, who had an eight-year term in office and served alongside former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, recalled that during their first term, the country’s economy witnessed significant growth.
